 About Michael

Michael Le Roy is an accomplished University President, independent board director, and strategist who is passionate about investing in leaders. He has lived and understands the full claim that executive leadership has on people’s lives and supports boards to be effective and leaders to thrive. Michael has a proven track record of leading institutions to meet challenges with success, developing highly effective teams, and coaching others to become better problem-solvers and leaders. He is the president emeritus of Calvin University, where he created and executed a strategic vision that transformed the institution from a college to a university and drove a dramatic financial turnaround. He additionally revitalized the university’s board dynamic to create greater engagement in strategy and financial performance. Previously, Michael co-led Whitworth University’s transition from a college to university where he brought focus to the university’s portfolio of offerings, strategic goals, and performance. 

Michael is a Board Director of Macatawa Bank, a publicly traded company (MCBC) and serves on the Audit, Trust, and Compensation Committees. An accomplished speaker and author, he has won multiple awards for excellence in teaching and research, including the prestigious Fulbright Award, which supported his research at Gothenburg University in Sweden. He earned a PhD from Vanderbilt University and a BA from Whitworth University. One of Michael’s most powerful life experiences came while journeying on a 32-day, 542-mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. He is currently at work on a book providing leadership guidance to new college and university presidents.
